I think my stomachs too weak for that!
would you eat blood voluntarily, if it was, say, a major constituent in a food that you found to be particularly tasty?.

so much promised to so many which resulted in so much disappointment, despair and misery.
what future for the young?.
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years.
As a 17 year old when this article came out (which I clearly remember, believe it or not), I can vouch for your description of what life has become in 2002.
I didn't worry about further education, having a career, getting a pension or even going to the dentist to have those bad teeth seen to. I didn't need to, Armageddon was just around the corner.
How I wish I'd known then what I know now!

DazedAndConfused,
Yes, I guess the discrimination laws are pretty similar. The problem is the law only comes into use when someone invokes it or challenges it. Workers are recruited by word of mouth within local congregations and therefor positions are never advertised, so they don't need to decline any non-witness applicants. There have been occassions when carers have been "reproved", and as a consequence been shunned by their fellow workers, resulting in them leaving of their own accord. If somebody wished to this amounts to "constructive dismissal" and there would probably be a very good case to answer to.
Unfortunately, nobody ever challenges this situation, so they continue to get away were their illegal activities....again!
yesturday my wife bumped into one of our former friends from the hall.. she tried to discuss a few points with him but as she hasn't done much research herself was a bit stuck when he told her that the reason the society dates the fall of babylon to 607 was because the jews were in captivity for 70 years which working back from 537 you come to 607.. i tried to explain to her that the bible does not specifically say the jews would be in captivity for 70 years but that in daniel it talks of the devestaions of jerusalem ,which could mean it rulership by babylon which started before they were taken captive.. beside that isn't it true that people were left over in jerusalem and only the elite taken?.
anyway at the end of 2 chronicals particually verse 21 it talks of the land laying desolate 70 years this would sujest that the 70 years maybe did refer to the desrution of jerusalem.. can anyone point me in the right direction on this?.
by the way this has no bearing on what i think just my wife as i don't believe the bible to be the word of god anyway, and there are far bigger problems with the witnesses time prophecies , i just need to show from the bible it is wrong as that is the only source of authority for some people.
Sleepy, I can't help you out with your specific question, but the site Shar mentioned definately will.
Just as a side point it may interest you to know that in his book, "Millions Now Living WILL Never Die" Rutherford said the fall of Jerusalem was 606 BC. He said that this date was definately and positively correct beyond any doubt, and therefore, applying the various prophecies took the end of the gentile times to 1914.
Starngely enough, when the WTS realised they had calculated the 2620 (or whatever the figure was) they made a mistake! They had forgotton there wasn't a Zero year. So what should have happened was that 1914 should have become 1915. Of course, so much jad been said about 1914 by this time that the Society was faced with a major problem! They solved it in true Watchtower style. Rather than move 1914 one year forward they simply re-wrote history and said Jerusalem fell in 607 BCE.
It's simple when you know how!!

Latte,
I've seen them sitting crying when they think back to the years they have given to the B-Org and the sacrifices they have made, only to find themselves being shunted round, made to get up when they are fast asleep in the morning and put to bed when they are wide awake at night.

Sounds the ideal scenario for JW's to look after JW's. The reality is somewhat less than ideal.
--"This staffing provided only by Jehovah's Witnesses is absolutely necessary for those times when consolation and spiritual encouragement are necessary to care for the residents."--
It would be interesting to see if someone would challenge this stance. The Race Relations Act in the UK forbids discrimination on religious grounds. What would happen if a qualified person was to apply for a position there, I wonder?
--"We do recognise that the primary responsibility to care for elderly ones lies firstly with their families and secondly with the congregation (see 1 June 1987 Watchtower). However there will be times when this arrangement will not suffice"--
The sad thing is that many of these old people have no family to care for them. When they were younger they were pioneering, being CO' etc and avoiding children because the end was nigh. So now they have no family.
There are a lot more things wrong with this set up but I may leave that for another day.
i have never missed a memorial in 20 years of being a jw, but this year will be the first one i miss because i refuse to set foot in any kingdom hall.
i was wondering how many that post here will attend the memorial and if so why?.
do you feel pressured into going by family or friends?.
I won't be there either.........for the first time in 49 years!
Like many others, I do still feel the need to celebrate the Memorial, but to also partake. THat was the arrangement Jesus set up, when even Judas Iscariot partook (despite what the WTS say).
I think we will be getting a few ex-JW's together to do our own thing.
im john, and this is mary.. mary: hi!
he can do whatever he wants, and what he wants is to give you a million dollars, but he cant until you kiss his ass.
me: do you know anyone who kissed hanks ass, left town, and got the million dollars?
How can I find this Hank?
I want a million dollars!
What a great guy Hank is......not only is he offering to give me a million dollars - if I do as he says he won't kick the shit out of me!
I'm going to start knocking on my neighbours doors to tell them all about Hank - then they can get a million dollars too!
after much deliberation, i decided to go "out" at the end of a public talk.
it didn't go down too well, but at least i was able to give some of my reasons for leaving.. i've put some of the details on my homepage.
i'll update it more when i get the time and the strength.
Congratulations again, LittleToe!
I would have loved to have been there - I can just picture a deathly silence falling over all assembled not knowing just what they were supposed to do.
Looking forward to hearing the sound file and maybe meeting up someday soon.
what a bunch of wall paper.

i am tired of the abusive language that has been dumped on me by otherwise respectable participants.
proplog2,
I have read the links provided in your post and find them very interesting. However, the reasonings detailed in those documents cannot be taken as a reason NOT to pursue and investigate suspected child abusers. There are clearly different opinions amongst the experts as highlighted by one of these articles "Even in her field, opinion is divided between fury and admiration. "I have nothing good to say about Elizabetb Loftus," says Bessel van der Kolk, M.D., a psychiatrist at Harvard, who is an expert in dissociative disorders. "I have only the highest regard for Elizabeth Loftus's work," states Frederick Crews, former chair of the English department at the University of California at Berkeley, and author of the most widely debated and discussed series of cover stories the New York Review of Books has ever published on the recovered-memory movement."
As in most areas of scientific and medical research and endeavour there are diametrically opposed views held by similarly qualified "experts" in any given field.
What is not and cannot be denied is that there is a very real problem of adults effecting sexual or other abuse on children. So whilst it is important to recognise there is always two sides to every story, we cannot ignore the problem because we know it will be difficult getting to the truth of that problem.
The area that gets most people wound up about the WTS stance on this issue is their willingness to deal with matters of child abuse in their own way, which effectively means totally untrained and unqualified men interviewing potential serial molesters and then making a decision to allow them to continue within the cong, even continuing in positions of trust and respect, opening up further opportunities to practice their molestations. By their continued practice of keeping the profesionals and the authorities out of the equasion, they put even more children at risk!
It's not an easy matter to resolve, but I for one believe our children should be given every right to protection from adult abuse in any form. In doing so there will no doubt be some suffering of innocent adults falsely or mistakenly accused. But what else can we do?
